Default PLEASE HELP ME,,, LT250r Jetting

This thing has driving me nuts. Here is the specs, .010 Wiseco, open air box with K&N & Outerwear, FMF Goldseries & silencer, stock carb and jetting, Maxima Full Synthetic 32:1.

Now here is what's going on. I can start this thing up and have it ideal all day long. If I ride it around keeping the ideal under 1/4 throttle, I'm fine, but as soon as I open up the throttle, it's like someone has hit the kill switch. I then have to remove the plug clean it, and it will fire right back up till I open it up again.

Now the other weird part. I was told that this was a lean foul since I was running an open air box and piped with a stock carb, and needed to bump my main jet up. BUT when I remove the plug, I have a little black stuff mixed with the plug when I remove it. It's like oil really, but it's still in liquid form. And if I keep cleaning the plug and riding around, I eventually get a little goopy oil blowing out where the pipe slides on the cylinder. That to me seems rich.

So can somebody help me out here, I'm only getting to ride for about 30 seconds before I have to clean my plug again.

What happens when you rev it up sitting in neutral? or does it only do it under a load in gear?

No, this also occurs while setting in neutral also. I could set there and let it ideal all day if it didn't get to hot, but as soon as I start revving up on it real hard, it starts to bog down, then dies instantly.

what size main do you have in it? and what position is the needle clip in?
also... (this happened to me) bad main seals will cause oil fouling... meaning the seal between the crankcase and the gearbox is shot.... it sucks oil into the crankcase from the transmission that doesn't burn as well as standard 2-stroke oil and then coats & fouls your plug with an oily residue.

Where are you talking about when you say air bleed? I've looked in my book, and don't see the location for that. I've got the carb off right now looking at it. This thing is completely stock, so the main jet is 240. The needle clip should be in the 3rd groove, but I can't make that official yet, I got to go to work, then as soon as I get back I'll tell you for sure. But I'm sure it's the 3rd groove.

As for the seals, I hope not. I just put new ones in this thing. There is nothing in this motor I haven't replaced, so I'm hoping it isn't internal. If I do a leak down test, that should tell me if it's an air leak or seals, I may need to do that.

OK, I was wrong, the needle clip is on the 2nd from the bottom. I'm going to put this thing back together, and should I go leaner (220) or richer (250). And where should I put the needle clip. Right now it's about 50-65F degrees outside, and I'm about 300-500 above sea level. Please help me, everyone around where I leave tell me one thing, the others tell me something else. I'm confused???

i agree with dual sporter. the 240 main should be perfect for your carb but that sounds like a lot of oil to me, make sure that you do a leak down test, you could find out very quickly whats going on. also your needle clip should be in the second from the top position. and i would go richer, not leaner.

You know to loctite the main seals in place don't you? Check the oil level in the trany. I'll bet it's low!!
