Default King Quad Problems

I have a 1998 King Quad. The problem is when I ride for a long or short time it back fires when you cut it off, when you let it sit for a while after ridding It is real hard to start it will crank up then shut off several time,Once it cranks up it will spit and sputter for a couple of seconds. Then it runs fine any help Please?? The four wheeler is all stock.

Thanks: King Quad

You might need to adjust the idel speed. My KQ will backfire sometimes after I shut it off but that is when it is really hot.

You might also try to richen the idle mixture about 1/4 to 1/2 turn. Backfire is usually due to a lean condition or an exhaust leak.

I'd try richening the idle mixture. It is under the carb in front of the float bowl, recessed in a tower near the engine side. You'll probably have to loosen the airbox clamp and the intake clamp and rotate the carb enough to get to the idle mixture screw.

Hope this helps.

To richen the mixture, turn the screw out (counter-clockwise).
