You can tighten it. It is rather hard to explain but I will try to do my best. First get the rear of the quad off the ground. Then, are two 17mm nuts on 2 15cm long bolt (2 of them top and bottom). Loosen the nuts. Then there are two 12mm bolts with 12mm nuts on them. Back them out as far as you can with out them falling out. Try to move the axle forard (or back i can't remember) till the chain gets tighter. Then adjust up those 12mm bolts and nuts. Then tighten the other bolts you loosened. That should be it. I hope this helped or at least gave you an idea how to do it. Maybe someone else can explain it a little better.

Well guys this is a little different from mine.First only loosen two bolts on the back of the quad and stick some lever into that hole on the axle and push down. Then retighten. That might have meant what you were trying to say Y2K.

Actually the 85-86 are a cam type, and 87-88 are like the kind that I described.

Here's a tip

As for me...
1st.. check out chain condition. Is it stretched?
You can not adjust a stretched chain. And it will cause you nothing but problems.
2nd If the chain is good....Follow the tip....
