Default Bought a New used atv that was someone else's problem...

I just bought a used 94 suzuki quadrunner and everything works except the engine in idle. It seems like it is worse when I am in an uphill position. Ive noticed that it wont start if stalled uphill unless I roll it backwards a bit. Any ideas on what to check?

Is it an auto tranny? Does it seam to have too slow of an idle when you put it in gear?
If so you may just need to bump the idle speed up some. Most Sportmans need this when they get a couple years old.

It doesnt feel like the idle. It is getting worse now. I havent been able to start it and keep it running yet today. I can start it and as long as Im giving it gas in neutral or driving it, It will run great. Maybe It is the carb. I think I am going to call a place in town that works on these, but I want to know what it is so they dont try to fix things unrelated to it.

I vote for the float level too. If you have to keep the throttle open to keep it running, the float is probably letting in too much gas in the bowl and flooding. Running the engine fast keeps up with the flow into the float bowl.

Good luck. Post the real problem once you find out.

Thanks,
Mark

I think it's the float too.

This is excellant advice. I wish that I asked the place I bought my ATV from how to check that sort of thing. Is it easy to do?

Float level or,,,,,,,

pilot screw out too far (too much fuel at idle)

I am however not familiar with a quadrunner
