Default LT250...HOW FAST? HOW MUCH POWER?

HI GUY'S;
A friend of mine is considering buying an 86 LT250. It has a pipe,jet kit,renthal bars,nerfs,bumper. all the goodies. It is rough looking but the plastic can be replaced. So I want to know all about the power and speed. How much does it put to the rear wheels? How fast is it(Top end) and how does it fare against the current crop(Raptors,Banshees,Z400's etc.? How much does the machine weigh(DRY)? Any other info appreciated...also the price is approx. $1500 (Can) =approx $1000 U.S.

PS: It has been bored out .60 over, or something like that.

I gave 2000$ for mine in very good condition. Its stock except a K+N filter and I had the head shaved. It will flat out smoke a Blaster with a Bills pipe and a jet, pulls nicely away from a stock atc 250r, doesn’t have much of a chance against a Banshee, with a pipe and a good rider it might take a z400 (maybe) or a stock Raptor (again maybe). It ran upper 60's with stock gears (12/42) probably low 70's now (13/42 gears). I think something like 320lb dry weight. I recommend shaving the head, it cost me under 50$ including new gaskets and gave a power increase comparable to adding a pipe and jet kit.

87 and up lt’s have a power valve and a six speed. Most people claim they are a lot faster. I have not raced one but I did race a 250r with a pipe (nearly the same motor as 87 up lt’s) he only had me by a few quad lengths in a quarter mile, his bike cost twice what mine did and doesn’t look as good, so in my opinion a later model isn’t worth the extra $s.

Sounds like a good deal if it runs good. I believe plastic is less than 300$ for front and back.

the quad weighs 297lbs dry and will be a nut hair faster than a z400 and for a grand it would sell like wildfire around here and horsepower wise probaly around 20 gie or take 1 or 2

There are plenty of things you can do to make the quad quicker also. I think it would be a good buy for the price. If it's been bored with a pipe and reeds, it should run pretty good as it is. It should have no problem keeping up with the 400's and will more than likely out run them.

My 86' does 73-74mph and it's stock except for the tires they are a little bigger than the stock ones. Raced against my neighbors Raptor and had it from the start and finished ahead of him by 4 quad lengths.

My 86 laid a whuppin down on my buddy's 400ex every time we raced. That was before I rebuilt mine and the piston looked like it got beat with a hammer. Now that I have a pipe and everything, I'll really lay it on him now. It won't touch his old man's 92' Q-Racer though.....

Guys, heres the skinny on lt 250rs. Hp is between 26-28 stock , top speed in a drag race on dirt was 67-68 mph. And yes the 87-90 Qracers were more powerful (by about 1.5-2hp. ). remember top speed is variable based on surface, length,gearing, etc. , but these stats are based on the old time ATVsports magazine(they were the only one who actually ever posted actual radar tested speeds)Dirt wheels,Atv Action never posted speeds back in the day. All these stats are give or take 1-2 based on the different mags outcomes. i hope this helps and I wish i could find my old mags to giveexact specs but I hope this helps.

A-arms only, I just found a website for a place up in canada that does Quadracer mods check it out its called HSD strong arm racing. I think this will be my last year for the quadracer as far as racing but we'll see, If I do get rid of it it will be replaced by a Z-400. the Lagers chassis is about the only one you can still find for the Lt but I just couldnt see sinking that much money into an outdated design , when the competitive sport quads aout there are coming off the production line again.
