My friend has a Z400 what can you do to lighten this quad? It is all stock. Where are some links for after-market parts, what would you prefer?

What is he setting it up for?

 

I would start with a aluminum exhaust system. The stock pipe is heavy

 

he is setting it up for mainly jumping and MX he has a pipe but not yet on.
do you take the Air box lid off on them when you pipe it and does it give it more power.

Depending on how much money he wants to spend, the ultimate weight loss would be to go with the LRD/Laeger aluminum "Altitude" frames. Other than that go with lighter exhaust, a-arms, rims+tires, swingarm, handlebars, sprockets, brake discs, sub-frame and losing the parking break and some other stuff I can't think of right now.

What is the best pipe for the Z400

 

I think a lot of guys are having good luck with various pipes but the main ones I think are the CT, Trinity, Duncan, Alba, and some I can't think of right now. If you read Dirtwheels magazine the February issue has a pipe shootout with the CT producing the best peak horsepower I don't know which has the better low or mid-range at the moment. Hope this helps
