z400 jet? air filiter? pipe?
#1
Hi guys did a little help i just bought a new HMF pipe for my z i put a 175 main jet in just as it calls for. Right now i still have stock air filiter and want to get the a new air filiter not sure what to get though a k&n or UNI does anybody have a HMF with either of these models or does anybody have any good advice for this question. Also will i have to re-jet it if i put a k&n on it?
i hear people say take off the snorkal im not sure what that is. is that the thing right under the seat that brings in the air to the air box? if so i ride Glamis which is all sand and that would allow alot of dust and sand in to the air box which would be bad.
need info on anything please thank youTextz400

Yeah that's the snorkle remove it and the air lid. That seems like a pretty big jet your running so you may not have to change it again. Both Filters are good I'll probably buy the Uni pretty soon for my KFX. Hope this helped!!

I have the HMF slip on w/ K&N pro flo, no lid. I'm at 5000ft and I run a 150 main. I was at a 145 then bumped to the 150 w/ the K&N pro flo kit and no lid...You might need to go bigger on the pilot jet also.. The 175 sounds a little rich for the stock filter set up.. Leave the snorkel on. Just take the snorkel lid off..

I have the MBRP slip-on, lid off and snorkle removed, stock filter with a filter skin, and I run a 155 main, needle on the 3rd clip with the mixture screw at 3.5 turns out and it runs excellent! 175 seems a little large. Check your plug to see if you're a little rich with it. Who knows it may be perfect?????

I RIDE DUNES EVERY WEEKEND AND USE A WHITE BROS POWERFILTER WITH FMF POWERCORE 4, 150 MAIN AND15/40 GEARING. THE DUAL FOAM FILTER IS THE ONLY WAY TO GO IN THE SAND. THE K&N IS A FABRIC FILTER AND WILL LET MUCH MORE DUST AND GRIT INTO YOUR CARB. GET A FOAM FILTER, OIL IT WELL WITH A SUPER TACKY OIL (NOT TOO MUCH OR YOU WILL RESTRICT YOUR AIR FLOW AND LOSE RESPONSIVENESS) AND YOU WILL SEE AN INSTANT POWER GAIN. I'M AT 3000 FEET RUNNNING A 150, YOU PROBABLY NEED TO COME DOWN A LITTLE ON THAT 175 MAIN.

The green circle is around where the noise baffle on the snorkel was. I would leave the snorkel on and just take the noise baffle off and cover with a pre-filter (an "outwears" type thing). Then again, it's really a moot point when you open up (or remove) your airbox lid.
