Z400: first ride
#1
I know this means nothing to most, but it was my first ride on a Z400 today. I loved the handling, how smooth it was, VERY comfortable, everything was sweet feeling. My down side was believe it or not power. I thought it would have a lot more, still it has enough to ride a **** 3rd gead wheelie and get good holeshots. I rode a wheelie going up-hill, I think the rear shock is set to soft factory giving it a bouncy feeling while doing a wheelie. Suzuki probably sets it soft so when dumb people compress them on the showroom floor they think ( good shocks..) Overall I think it's the most user friendly sport quad. I can't wait to get my KFX.

If the Z was stock then, yeah it would feel unimpressive in the power dept. Once you pipe, jet and open up the air way(K&N for me) - whoa! totally different bike. And that's just the beginning. The Z really does feel like the perfect set of compromises for me and I have ridden almost every sport quad out there.

Yeah, the aftermarket can solve almost every problem. The seat was comfotorable, and the clutch was very light pull. After riding my 300EX all day when I hopped on the Z I thought about stealing it.. My EX is to small for me and it will tear you up pretty fast on a track. I see why the guy on the Z wanted to keep riding, because the thing is effortless to drive, and lands smooth off jumps. I'm really trying hard to sell my Mojave and 300EX to get a KFX. I like the white Z's or KFX, the yellow Z's are kinda ugly to me.

what do you mean by straps motoxpress? i also have a white one and i'm worried about messing it up..also the black plastic on mine is starting to get scratched and dulled up where my pants rub it and my boots took my frame down to the metal..this broke my heart...do you have these problems too motoxpress?

My main problem was with the tie down straps. If I hooked to the handlebars, the straps would rub on the fenders and eventualy started to discolor the plastic. The only solution is to either stap onto the bumper or to wrap the straps in a soft cloth(cloth diaper would be perfect). As far as the frame, you need to get the sub frame guards.

I hope your right about the power of the Z with a few upgrades, beacuse while I love the way the Z handles it leaves me craving the power of my LT250R. I had them both out today, and I felt a huge difference. I think once I get the Z a few upgrades I will like the smoother power band, but right now it feels real slow off the start. Don't get me wrong, I love my new Z, I'm just ready to see what Zuk meant this motor to do......time to let her breath!!!!!!
P.S. Yellow Z's are in no way ugly.........maybe you should look at that pretty new polaris. I'm sure that thing would loose a few pieces of plastic on it's first role.

That is exactly the way it comes stock - sluggish off the bottom and then revs really well. Once you pipe/jet and let it breath it will be a whole new Z world for you
Then, there are carbs, pistons, ect.
