I was just wounder'in how much the 88 lt250r head could be shaved before I have to run race fuel. I know I have to measure squish first before I get it shaved.

I had my 86 shaved .020". I still run it on 89 octane no problem. Im thinking abouty having it shaved another .010" next time I have it apart. Could always go up to 93 octane and still be running pump fuel.

My head was stock specs before. I took it to a local machine shop and had it shaved with no other modification.

.02" is more then likely too much. I dont believe this engine came from suzuki with .06" squish. If run this engine with less then .04 squish u might have a piston to head interference problem at high speeds and also squish velocity might also be out of the safe range, leading to detonation. I woud determine where my squish is now and cut the head to run .04" piston/head clearance

I measure it with a piece of lead free solder throught the spark plug hole and shove it to the very edge of the piston. kick it over and then measure the piece of solder to deturmen how much of the head can be cut before I have to run cace fuel.

And the thickness of the squished solder is your squish clearance?
