which is better a 86 lt 250 or a 300ex

Well if you're willing to put the work and the moneyText into the LT250 then that would way out perfrom any 300 EX. The 300 EX is more of a beginners sports quad that has a great price tag. Its perfect for those who are starting out and are a little younger. But, if you want a performance quad then the LT250 is where ure money is at.

The LT will smoke a 300EX. No contest. The Suzuki will be a better race quad, depending on your budget and experiance. I agree with Asmurf though, if you are a beginner and not very experianced with quads the 300EX may be your best bet.

Okay guys, here comes my patented answer...
You're comparing apples to anvils here! One is sweet and juicy and red, the other hurts like HE!! when you drop it on your foot!
There is no comparison to be made b/w these machines... two total different theories at play here..
I think what you are really asking is "What fits me and my riding style/situation best"??? If you are considering both machines, I'd highly recommend riding both so you can develop your own opinion.

The 300ex is made for the "in-between" riders almost. It is not necessarily a beginners quad, yet is not made for high power drag racing or burn a hole in the ground horsepower machine. Something close to what a 300ex is good for is the Yamaha Warrior. The 300ex has fair power and decent handling, and if you have never owned a quad it might be pretty good for you to start out on.

These bikes are so different comparing them is almost doomed to fail. In general a four stroke needs almost twice as much cc's to even be a match to 2-stroke power . I ve been riding for about 4 years now and this is what ive learned. I have a suzuki lt250 and it smokes every four stroke ive seen ( yes even the raptor), which has more than double the cc's as mine! I bought a brand new blaster(200cc) in 98( my first atv),and went to florence oregon with about 20 people. Most of them had bikes not quads. There was one guy who was with us that had a honda 300ex witha K&n filter and a pipe/sil. He had been riding for 3 years and me 3 hours. Some of the big hills were really difficult to climb but I did make it up almost every try. As I got to the top me and the people we were with would point and laugh as the 300ex would look for a "easier route". A 300ex was designed to be a more of a smooth riding comfortable bike, for beginners.( electric start, great suspension, honda reliability)

Well, I think the LT250 uses the same bottom end as the LT230, and i know the LT230 has a bullet proof motor, because i am a proud owner. Anyway, on your quest to find which is a better quad, i would say the LT250 is, because i took my LT230 and raced a 300EX, and totally smoked him from start to finish, we were geared the same also. His machine was stock, and mine had a DG RCM exhaust, and a K&N air filter, so im almost positive a stock 250 could beat a stock 300EX.
