Default Z400 W/bjetted with K&N Lid or no lid?

Hi guys,

Need some advise here. I have just fitted a W/Bros. E series pipe to my Z400 and rejetted the carb with the Dyno jet kit using the needle at position three, main jet 150 and idle mixture at 3 1/2 out as per the instructions. Also fitted a K&N with Outerwear using a pro flow adapter. The bike idles well and pulls great with the air box lid off. I am using the bike on sand (nothing else out here - Dubai UAE) and was wondering if any of you dune riders out there are running with the air box lid off using a similar setup.

Any feed back would be appreciated.

Many thanks,

Dave M

Yes running with your lid off is fine as long as there is no water getting in there, so you should be fine!!!

Thanks Bulldog,

Are you using your machine in the sand too?

The lid of the airbox is to keep water out more the anything. The K&N and outerwear should do it's job and keep the sand out of your motor. Even with the lid on if you are riding in sand it can be pulled in through the snorkle. Thats the beauty(horor) of sand.....it gets everywhere. Keep that filter clean and appreciate that you get to ride in the sand.....The rest of us have to travel to ride the soft stuff!!

Keep the lid off and remove the snorkle (everything) let that baby breath ...

I ride all kinds of sand: fine powder Logandale , grity (salt size) Armagosa , grity (suger size) Dumont , and very very fine
dusty sooty crap (VEGAS)

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the input. Appreciate it. Rode again today, just getting used to the added power or is it the added noise? No really the power is definately better. Just wondering about the main jet though. It feels a bit lacking at the top end. Short of doing a plug pull after a full throttle drag, any ideas on my set up? A bit lean maybe with a 150?

Thanks again guys.

Bump up to a 155 main jet and that should do it.

155 installed. plug looking good, good top end no hesitation, only when the rev limiter cuts in!
