Default Problems with Head Gaskets on a LT250R

Hey guys!!! Im new on this board........

Anyways my beloved 88 Quadracer is having issues with head gaskets.............I have blown about 3 of them on various trips the past year. Something is up.

Here are my ideas..............

1. Im using a crappy aftermarket head gasket, maybe try a OEM suzuki gasket.

2. My Cool Head or my cylinder is not prefectly flat anymore. *have not milled the head*

3. I dont think its a over heating problem. Im not lean on the jetting and have fresh coolant, and the water pump is fine.

Any ideas guys?? I thought I saw a post about different year LT's have different gaskets and I should try a 91+ head gasket.

BTW, I love this Quad, any LT lovers in here??

I had the same thing happen. I tried some chap gaskets from Ebay, and they blew. I bought two and they both went. I bought a genuine suzuki gasket, and havnt had a problem since. Also, I thought Cool Heads had O-rings instead of gaskets.

No, the cool head for my LT uses the factory gasket. My brother-in-laws Banshee has a cool head also and that uses o-rings.

I had the same problem with cheap head gaskets, I went through 2 of them then I got a suzuki I never had a problem with it again. I just ordered a suzuki one because I am about to put my top end back on and I think it was about $14 for 1. but they work.

Head gaskets arent the place to save a couple bucks , buy an oem gasket made buy the dealer just be on the safe side. Make sure to torque down the head bolts equally. Getting your head milled wouldnt be a bad idea though, your head may be warped from a previous over heat, and the added power you will enjoy im sure. I havent heard of anyone wanting less performance out of their 250r. It cost me 45 dollars and bumped my compression to 190. I believe stock is around 140.Also when putting on your new gasket use yamabond or equivilent, its real sticky-messy stuff but it will improve your gasket seal.

Use the OEM Suzuki gasket, spray both sides with copper coat. Works really well. Those cheap made aftermarket gaskets just aren't worth it. The head stay bolt should be installed to prevent breaking the lower motor mounts, just install it last after the head's torqued down.
