LT250R exhaust valve, need help
#12
Does the power valve close on top end? With the cyl off, the rod on my 88 is up (the valve would be closed) when I install the cyl. I dropped one of the plastic bushing/retainers in the crank. Will it hurt my bottom end?
Thanks

F250r, are you saying that you loosened the spring beyond the service manual recommendation? If so, you are probably hurting your lower midrange with no improvement of topend. The exhaust valve is meant to actuate at a certain rpm to get the best low, mid, and top end power. If you have no way of checking rpm (tachometer) then you should just adjust the valve according to the book and leave it alone (unless the valve doesn't work at all, then you need to service it). Following the service manual's instructions on adjusting the valve is FAR better than GUESSING what rpm you engine is spinning when the valve actuates.

The lower bushing/rod retainer on my 88 hangs up on a part of the mechanism of the governor. Its like the bushing is too long. I replaced mine with a steel retainer use on a car door lock linkage. Theres a lot more cleareance.
