electrical problems

Default electrical problems

2002 350 honda fourtrax 4x4 has blown main fuse.replaced it while ignition was turned off and it blew.the bike will start with pull cord with out a fuse.while bike is running i can put in a new fuse and the neutral and oil temp lights and the digital dash will flash on and off and sometimes when i turn on headlight switch the engine will shut down......please any suggestions would be appreciated...thanks

could the regulator cause these problems???

Possibly.

Do you have a volt/ohm meter?

Actually, probably the fastest way to tell would be to disconnect the regulator plug, and replace the fuse again while the key is off.

If it still immediately blows the fuse with the key off, I'd say you have a short in the harness or problem in the key switch.

On the other hand, if it blows the fuse when you replace it with the key off and the regulator connected, and it doesn't blow the fuse when you replace it with the key off and the regulator disconnected, then I think it would be safe to say the regulator is grounded out...

The thing about turning on the headlight causing the motor to die kind of concerns me, but I'd assume if there was a short in the lighting system, it would blow that fuse.

my buddy got a 450 foreman(1999) just wondering if the regulator from his bike would be ok to try on a 350 fourtrax(2002)as a new one will cost me $140+ canadian.just to make sure this is my prob?????

Did you try unhooking the regulator and putting in a new fuse to see if it blows?

with the regulator plugged in my dash dosent light up and with the regulator unplugged it lights up just fine.......whats goin on here....not blowin fuses anymore....soooo??????? not to sure anymore......

Do you have an amp meter? If so, try measuring current draw from the battery with the key and everything off, both with the regulator hooked up, and with it unhooked...

when i p-lug in the regulator the voltage drops by 2 volts and it gets as hot as the flames of hell...

hey ....i got a new regulator(contactor) and now my 350 trx is workin just fine. the new part cost me $151.35 canadian. thanks for the suggestions
