Default 2002 Yamaha Raptor wont start

I bought a 2002 raptor last year and had some starter troubles. The starter would engage sometimes while other times i had to roll start it. But i didnt take care of the problem immediately. After putting it away for the winter i took it out this past weekend to fire it up and the bike wont turn over and it seems almost as though the bike is stuck in gear. I want to try and fix the bike myself but i am new at fixing ATV's. Could someone give me an idea of what could possibly be wrong??

Thank You

I think you are probably right on target with the rust problem... Especially since the clutch did seem to engage, but that the atv just had a hard time rolling while it was... Im gonna have to take a look at it when i get it home from where i store it ... do u think this would be a good job for me to do on my own or should i seek professional assistance?

tthat would depend greatly on you mechanical aptitude and experience as well as the extent of the damage if the corosion stayed in the cylinder then honing and replaceing the rings may be all thats needed but you won't know till you get inside one thing that would be good to find out is wether you're local shop will put it back together after you take it apart some won't
