what standards are motorcyle oils held to that are higher than automotive standards? let's see designed for off road use , so therefor doesn't have to meet the same requirments like most off road only stuff , make no mistake most name brand bike oil is high quality , but would question , that your average shelf 4 stroke oil is any better than the same oil basicaly made by pensoil, castro, ect.

Wet clutch oils are NOT designed for off-road use only........
There are plenty of street bikes out there with wet clutches. If you've ever seen a bottle of Amsoil it has a picture of a street bike on it, not an ATV or dirt bike. It was designed to a very high standard for use in high performance street bikes, and it is over 90% pure synthetic.
Street bikes have higher compression, closer tolerances, aluminum internal engine parts, and RPM ranges that cars cannot even dream of.
So tell me how the oils could not be designed to a higher standard that what goes in your average Chevy SUV with a 6000rpm max and a compression ratio of 8:1, and forged steel internal engine parts?
I'm glad your engines were still perfect on dino oils but I've seen too many that were not.

amsoil is good but he ask for good cheap oil , i used to run amsoil to . my point being oil isn't designed for any one bike only. it's designed to work with whatever it is listed to fit , i got my info from an old bike forum, i forget who exactly , was around 01, then when i was in va doing service at mobil oil had a long talk with one of there lab tech's , who stated thats what the codes are for, its useally only one type made per manufacture. , so no motior oil not rated for bikes should't be used. but if it is . i'll put my money on a name i know . if amsoil is so much better then show me the data that compares how many more miles you get out of it . that is not published by amsoil , btw i quit running amsoil in my 2 strokes, after hearing several people complaining about there bikes exploading after they used it , don't know if there is any thing to it , but then i don't have money to trow away.
my buddy has the drz 400 since 00 or 01 , and has a ton of miles on it . with no problem's . bottom line run whatever makes you feel good,

btw my service manual says not to use synthetic oils because it is not designed for wet clutches. so go figure? and as i stated all oil is rated useing ase standards
some manufactures refine ther oil more than others, alot of the newer bikes have to run synthetic . and a z400 running 12000 rpm's like to see that

Well first off I'm not hocking Amsoil..... there are even better oils out there like Maxima for instance........ If you want to know about oils as Reconranger here, he is an expert on the subject......
And as I said, there is nothing wrong with cheap oils. But if you believe you don't get more protection and longer lasting protection from a synthetic I'm not going to convince you otherwise.
I've seen enough oil failure in my time to know that using cheap oils is NOT worth it IMO. I would rather be safe than sorry in something like an ATV where the tolerances are so fine and the compression is so high, and the machine is worked so hard.

don't get me wrong either i think name brand [amsoil ect] oils are superior because they stand on there name. and if i was drag racing, or moded for high rpm where you need all the advantages you can get. but for most well below 10,000 who chang there oil often , a little off subject but i also remember reading that you shouldnt run synthetic with aftermarket cams several years ago , when i installed my web's , ? ? now bikes come with it stock. so who knows. i've always wondered how many 4 stroke oil comp's refine there own oil, and how many have it made by the big guys and just slap there label on it. i assume the new synthetics are all custom made. and high quality ,
