How to bypass rancher ECU to modify electrical shift capability
If you have given up on trying to figure out why your electronic/electrical shift mode will not work and/or cannot afford to replace parts , here is a last ditch MOD you can make to regain the ability to shift electrically by way of a thumb switch providing that your shift motor is working.
TESTING THE ECU SHIFT MOTOR VOLTAGE FEED CIRCUIT/DRIVER
Electronic/electrical shifting is peformed by the ECU providing a short pulse of voltage to the shift motor (based on the several sensors). The polarity of the voltage pulse determines upshift or downshift mode by direction of shift motor spin.
Normally the ECU will pulse the motor durning a reset so one can determine if the ECU shift motor power feed circuit is operative. If the ECU does not provide any voltage durning reset cycles the SHIFT MOTOR DRIVER CIRCUIT is open/faulty and a new ECU will be needed. This (burn out) usually is preceded by a blown 30 amp shift motor event. Usually a code 12 is flashed. Usually caused by a short in the power feed wires from the ECU to the shifter motor at some point in time or a faulty motor/overloaded motor.
To bypass the ECU perform the following...
1. Disconnect the shift motor wires from the ECU .
2. Install DOUBLE THROW DOUBLE POLE MOMENTARY SWITCH on the handle bar in a area close to your thumb.
3. Feed power from the battery to the shift motor through a 30 amp fuse to protect the motor.
4. reverse power feed polarity to switch to change which direction the motor spins when you engage the switch.
I have observed that in many cases when down shifting it is common to jump down 2 gears verses one.
IF the ECU is in the fault mode it will continously flash any codes and gear position indicator will be inoperate.
NOTE: a mod can be made using the gear postion sensor to read gear position if needed.
I ride my rancher almost everyday and have had this mod in place for over a year. My friends who have electric shifts have made a backup switch that they carry with them just in case they get stuck with a ECU /sensor/wiring failure especially when far away from rescue
sounds like a perfect solution i'm not electrically smart ,mechanical yes ,would rrally like to understand thus .can you send me a drawing of what your talking about.?

will this also work on a 2001 foreman rubicon 500cc? Thank you

and can you email me a diagram if possible? Thank you
350 Rancher ES - Bypass Shifts Backwards - How to fix?
Hi everyone, I have a 2005 Rancher 350 that kept giving me grief with Angle sensor code every other month. I replaced the sensor many times & the shift button assembly as well. Finally I bought one of these delete kits as described in this post off of Ebay.
The kit works great & allows us to shift regardless of the code but the one thing that is driving me nuts is to shift up I have to hit the down shift button & to shift down I have to hit the up shift button. I feel this is probably something on the kit I can take apart & maybe swap a wire to correct. Has anyone ran into this & know how to correct it? I’m good with electronics & wiring. I can enclose a pic of my kit as well. Thanks for any help.
