If it's not charging check that the wiring is secure on the regulator located by the radiator. Some models are bad on wiring connectors vibrating loose. Charge the battery up and load test it to see if it's still ok.This is a regulator with the strange red connector. Not as cheap as previous models if you need one.http://www.ebay.com/itm/2203638-POLARIS-Voltage-Regulator-400-500-600-700-2003-2004-/191527981887?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash=item2c97f5133f&vxp=mtr

A bad stator will not effect the operation of the starter motor, but you will never have spark.

If it was running before the battery went dead, just charge the battery, have it load tested at any auto store to see if it doesn't have a dead cell from being sucked down by the regulator. Again check the regulator wiring first to see if a wire has come loose that keeps it from charging..If the battery load tests ok,just order a new regulator.

Check resistance on the pick up coil leading to the cdi. White and Red/White wires. Should show 97 ohms resistance. Exciter coils wires to cdi: Black/Red to Green 446 ohms, Red to Green 1.6 ohms. Plus see if it will crank with the recoil starter. If it does, could be pick up coil is dirty or needs to be moved closer to the flywheel. May be similar to what another member found out.http://forums.atvconnection.com/pola...ml#post3155476

Pull the recoil housing and see if either the White or Red/White pick up coil wires may have possibly become loose from the pick up body. Have had them break the soldered connections before.
