Buying a 26ft. toy box, what to buy
#11
Your nissan is no more than a half ton truck if that. I would be careful even towing a 21' trailer. We had a 23' toy hauler towing it w/ a half ton dodge. It was scary at times in high winds and trying to stop it. We upgraded to a f350 superduty diesel. I didnt even notice that 23' trailer behind me then when starting and stopping. Now we have a 34' weekend warrior and thats some weight. 12,000 lbs and even for our truck its a lot of weight. Go look at the brakes on any dodge, ford, or chevy 3/4-1 ton truck. They will be way bigger than that nissan. You will have to worry about things like cooling and especially your transmission. That grade from carson city into tahoe is a killer. I did it on our way back from sand mtn today and even with a f350 superduty diesel, it still is a workout for the truck. You should seriously consider either a smaller trailer or upgrade to a bigger vehicle. You really will be so much happier and safer in the long run. Everybody who has has always been greatful for the advice and wonder y they didnt upgrade sooner.

Ditto 80%
Check my pics. 26' toybox. 3/4 truck with HUGE front & rear rotors (trailer has 4 brakes also) 315hp engine.
Let me tell you, my truck works pretty hard to tow that rig, even with nothing in it.

Well guys, I was too far down the path in buying the truck and trailer to take your advice. So now I have it. I drove it home empty with a 40 mph cross wind and a couple of short 4 and 6 degree grades with no problems. I am taking it out this weekend loaded up so i will keep you posted. By the way the ARMADA is awesome. Will try to post pics next week!

Well good luck and be careful, leave plenty of room for stopping as you are right at your limit when loaded. Hope your weekend trip went ok. Now load up and fill up with water and go pull hiway 50 up into tahoe and see how it does. That will show how the armada does. Not just up the grade, but coming back down. I want to ride that carson city area/pine nuts some day. We should hook up some time.

Good and bad news, Good was the Armada performed beautifully and had no problems pullng or stopping. Bad was the trailer. Keystone has some SERIOUS quality issues. My dealer prep was non- existant. I returned the trailer to the dealer, Monday. They have a week to fix: Propane gas leak, hole in floor under shower, fuel station electrical short, generator won't start and leaks oil, roof panels that are loose, electrical wires haging off the undercarriage, black water leaks etc. Watch out for Keystone trailers! Maybe I just got a lemon
Sean,
I would love to show you the Pinenuts as they are my backyard and I love exploring them. Let me know when you can make it over the mountains and we will roost it up.

we bought a "cheapie" toyhauler first too. We never had too many major problems but lots of little problems. Things like hinges on the beds bending, cheap wood and trim, water tank brackets bending. It was a 24' dunes. We bought our weekend warrior new last year and had it for over a year and it has been great. trade it in if you can and go get a FS 2600. You wont regret it. Or get the superlite 23' trailer they came out with. its nice and is close to the 20k price you are looking at. Go onto giant RV's website, you will get an awesome deal. Thats where we bought ours.

I didn't realize Keystone was a cheapie, cause it was $25k with generator, tax etc. I looked at the Weekend Warrior and it didn't seem to be much better quality wise. I guess looks can be decieving. We will see, I gave my dealer one more chance to make it right or I am returning it. I will reconsider the Warrior then.
As for the Pinenuts closing, bah. Even if it does happen there is no way in h@$% that they could ever police 600,000 square miles of Pinenuts plus Sand Mt. and Walker River with the 4 BLM officers in Northern Nevada. They have admitted that to us at these meetings and also the local Sheriff's office has confirmed that they will have no part in enforcement. On top of all that there is no way they can catch the DS

thats good to hear about the pinenuts.
The keystone may not be a super cheapie or anything but having so many problems on your first trip will lead me to believe that it is atleast a lemon and you could have constant problems for years down the road. Get out of it while you still can. Sounds like you overpaid for that trailer too.
I paid $24,500 OTD(including almost 2000 in sales tax) for our 34' triple axle weekend warrior loaded with 5.5KW onan gen, 36 gallon fuel tank, with everything but fiberglass sides.
You should be able to get a loaded 26' WW for around $20-22k.
