im thinking of buying a ranger. its a 4.0 liter v6 and i will need to be towing 5-6 quads on a pretty hefty trailer. its an auto with low range and 4 wheel drive. you guys think it will be strong enough?

You'll hate it for that. 6 quads plus a big trailer is going to be 4500 lbs+ it ain't gonna work too well.

well i forgot to mention it has a K&N and a six gun exhaust and when it was rebuilt they bored it .080 over. im not sure if that changes anything? on top of which this thing is a steal. theres nothing wrong with it except for the center console is broke and its 1300$$

thoser motors are empressive, but you are asking to much of that little truck. You will go through tranny often. My brother had a ranger like this one, but it had a 5 speed Manual. It did very well, but you could sure tell that it was not made for hauling big loads.

good luck, and remeber to give your self plenty of room to stop. Your load well weell exeed your braking power.

Bigger.

I have a 95 with the 4.0 auto, great truck.... The 4.0 runs great for a 6 cyl, it pulls just as good as my buds F-150 4.6 v8...

I pulled a parts car(on a big car hauler trailer) for my mustang from Wisconsin to Northern Indiana where i live this car was complete engine trans etc and the ranger did very well pulled it like there was nothing on the trailer, i just took it easy let it shift slowly...

It will work if you drive sensible while hauling, but if you can find a bigger truck it would work out better for you....

Good Luck,

Why do people try to make a small truck do a big trucks job?

Just because it has a strong motor doesn't mean the truck will be up to the job. It's not just the motor. Even the tranny. It comes down to the brakes. If you insist on towing all this, make sure the trailer has brakes. I know that my work truck, '91 GMC Sonoma requires trailer brakes for loads over 1,000lbs. Read through the owners manual if you have it, get one from Ford or find one on the net. Those trucks are pretty light and that much mass behind it is going to tell it where it's going.
