Trailer brake controls are not hard to install. The newer ones that I am familiar with do not require tapping into the brake system at all. A few wires and you are in business. The important thing is to be sure you use good electrical connectors and not those quickie snap on things. Route the wire from the dash to the rear of the coach carefully so you dont end up with any rub spots and you should be good.
Their are several makes of controlers on the market and different ones work well in different applications. I would suggest you talk to people that are pulling trailers and see what will suit your needs. Most, and I stress "Most", dealers will naturally push the brand they are selling which may not be the best for your needs.
I really prefer the old Kelsey-Hays controlers but they are no longer available and you can't have the two I've got!

I have worked for Monaco since they bought Beaver(SMC Corp) out in '01, and built motor homes for 5 years previous to that. I work in the fiberglass/lamination plant that produces the walls-floors-ceilings-frontcap-backcap-etc. for the Beaver coaches. In my opinion the quality and craftsmanship we produce now, under Monaco's flag is second to none. The standards we use now are so high that I see an enormous amout of pretty good parts going to the dumpster or being rebuilt because they just aren't up to the standards we need to meet. I would be proud to own a Beaver coach, (yeah maybe someday...come on lottery), I know what they are made of. I'm just an average working stiff who is proud of the products I make and was looking around for some info on the '05 prairie 360 4x4, hmmm maybe this forum has a thread on them....the monterey quad is one cool coach!!
The attention to detail on this coach is pretty good. After a couple weeks I have only had to adjust the front door to make it seal properly. Door installer was having a bad day I guess Did the best I could!!!!!!

Yea I've worked for Monaco for seven yrs now. The Monaoc slogan is "WHERE DREAMS ARE BUILT", which is very true! They will build what you want! And all Monaco/Holiday Rambler/Safari/Beaver and the Towables are all made with top of the line products, with top notch Employees that are very prideful in what they build. Anybody that buys a Monaco Product wil be happy.
