PISMO ROCKS!
Tons of fun for all . . . lots of great people . . . . camping on the beach is cheap . . . . . the dunes just keep going and going and going!

Oceano Dunes (Pismo) is the only beach I know of that you can still ride on in CA. I know it's the only one that you can drive a regular vehicle on.

Summer is VERY busy. Make your reservations as soon as you know (min. 10 day advance) when you'll be in town. Camping is $10/day and day use is like $6. That's for your road vehicle and one legally towed vehicle. No per person charges.

I don't know the reciprocity agreement with NV, so you may want to check on that to make sure. If your quads (any OHV) is licensed in your state, you should be good to go in CA. Most likely it's ok. I know people from CA who ride Sand Mountain all the time. Reserve America (finally noticed the busted link and fixed.)

You can get by with knobbies if you won't ride sand again and you don't want to make the investment in them (I paid about $150 mountain on rims.)

Definitely give Pismo a try... not the world's steepest dunes.. but definitely fun to ride and great people to camp around!

I agree with everyone Just came back last week from there Weather was great (timed the storms perfectly) Day use was $5 for truck and trailer holding 6 quads. camping is $10 a night. Check tide schedule before hitting the sand. It was way high last week from the storms that blew in. If it's high, wait until low tide, to cross the creek.

I haven't been to Pismo is many, many years. Did they open up any more area or continue to close it down piece by piece? I never thought it was that large of a total area to ride but it is a fun place to ride, being on the beach

Well they do the partial closures (from Pole 6 to 8) from Feb to Sep. It is pretty small....mstrquad refers to it as a sand box or kitty litter box.

Karyn...liking Pismo...really? Never would have guessed. You need to get a skid plate....so you can ride real trails. At least when you get stuck someone doesn't come buy and roost you.

Trasher, With you being so close to Glamis/Dumont You might think it's small But, Where else can you camp anywhere(basically) on the beach, ride and watch the sunset over the Pacific ocean with a nice cold one in your hand If I was traveling any length of distance to ride in sand and be on the beach I wouldn't be disappointed with Pismo.

BlackandRed, did you roost Karyn
