Suggestions on Rims & a bed for my S-10
#1
Well I'm gonna start doing things to my truck and i need some suggestions. First off.. if you look in my pictures at the Green S-10 you can see some rust above the wheel well on the bed.. which is 10 times worse on the other side. So my first question is:
1. Should I find a junkyard bed that isnt rusted, buy a custom made flat bed with removeable sides(any suggestions), or fix my bed (any suggestions? I'll put a picture up if anyone wants to see it), or should i build one myself?
2. Look at the Red Blazer, the picture of it on the trail.
A. Would those rims look better with the tires on my truck right now
B. Would those rims look better with a lift kit and 31's or 33's (The most i can fit with the lift kit i choose)
I know this isnt that kind of forum but i didnt feel like signing up for some truck forum just for this, so i figured i could get some opinions here. Thanks Y'all, Keith

If you plan on hauling your quad a lot, a flat bed would give you a great platform for loading a quad and gear. But a junkyard box might be cheaper, and keep it looking more like a pickup. As for the rims, they would look very nice on the truck. Tires, big thumbs down, that little truck is not made to turn 31 or 33 inch tires, you would need to spend big bucks on regearing to keep the power levels near stock to turn those big meats down the road, and have any power to tow with. A nice set of 235 series radials will look just fine with those rims, and not kill your power. I owned 2 S10s, loved them both, a Baja and a standard x cab, moved up to a full size truck when I got a bigger boat, and needed more room inside the cab ( kids ). Just don't go overboard, spend you money on the quad, then the truck !!!

I'd say try and find a cheap bed,,,and go ahead and switch the wheels.
or,,,do nothing,,,and save for a truck that says 1500, 2500, 3500 on the side of it

Haha you should see the other side. Above the wheel well it goes the around the whole well and about 1/2 of they way to the top of the bed.. i tried fender flares but i cant find any big enough.

your s-10 extracab looks just like my buddies old s-15 back in the late 80's
He lived in CT also,,,,and it was rusted pretty bad. We ended up custimizing the bed and making it a wooden deck,,,,,like the old, old chevy's
came out alright i guess

Watch the weight you put in the back, My 94 s-10 is only rated for 500lbs! I loaded my scrammy up(600lbs) and the thing bottoms out. At first I thought I had a bad rear end but after replacing both rear shocks and no improvement, I talked to a guy at the local shop and he told me they were never built to haul anything heavy. So be carefull.

In mine.. I've had 30 2x4s, 10 2x8s and 2 sheets of plywood and it was still sitting strong. It does have helper springs.. but thats still alot. In the black S-10 in the pictures We've had it full from the bottom of the bed to the top of the cab and full from the front to the back (packed to the limit) of 3' logs.. and that was a good load and sunk it a little.. but was still able to drive down a rough trail with plenty of power.. The red blazer made it down the same trail with enough rocks to build a bon fire pit.. prolly about 2.5' high and about.. 5' wide. So they can handle a real good load for there size.. or maybe i've just had good luck. Was your's a 4wd? All of mine have been 4wd, so maybe that makes a diff, who knows. I looked at the rust again and i guess it's only a quater of the way up.. still ugly.. but im gonna live with it and learn how to weld and fix it someday.... For now im gonna put more money into the blaster and the wolvy.. maybe sell the BB... and buy a plow for the wolvy so the guy that gave it to me for free wont complain that i dont plow his driveway anymore. My 2.8 has 200,840 miles on it.. so it's prolly getting ready to blow.. So my dad told me to put money aside so we can buy a bigger truck wrecked with a 350 Auto 4x4 in it.. and we'll put that in. I was looking at edelbrocks yesterday... you can buy them anywhere from 310 horsepower and 375 ft/lbs. of torque to 440 Horsepower & 425 ft/lbs. of Torque .... imagine 440/425 in an S-10... Would it break it? lol... He said we'd need some new springs and a sway bar and stuff.. maybe that'll give me an excuse to lift it while we're at it. Anyway.. thanks for your opinions.. the rims are deff going on.. the bed is gonna wait.. its only rusty above the 2 rear wells so it wont hurt anything...

See there you're talking. But why a 350, get creative and stuff a "baby" 283 or a drool, slobber, drool 327. But you need to hook it up w/ a new bed, a flat bed, but a hydraulic flat bed. That'd be trick, drop the bed down, drive bike on it, strap it in and then put the bed back. Now, if only we had limitless funds right. Hope it all goes well, and no matter what V8 you put in it, it's gonna be better than that 2.8
