Slide in Hitch Holders
#1
I saw an ad in the ATV mag and saw where you can insert into your hitch a ATV carrier for only one, but how dependable are these? Do you need special attention to welding beads for the extra load, or will it hold? It doesn't look to stable but was just curious.

Ive seen pics of people using them on 1/2 ton SUVs that had 4x4 machines on them and the thing(Expadition) was practicaly on the bump stops. Personaly I dont like them but I havent heard of one failing yet but I still wouldent use one.

I'd be wary of an ATV one. A friend used to carry his Suzuki RM250 MC on a slide in carrier. It lifted the front and made it feel light. 2500 GMC Suburban 4x4. Throwing a quad on one, eek. You'd have to have a very heavy duty hitch. Probably a Class IV. The quad and carrier would need to weigh less than the non-WD load that could be carried by the tongue.

I wonder what a quad would look like after getting dropped from a vehicle at highway speeds.... Anyone want to donate their ride? LOL

I don't have any pictures, but it wasn't pretty! I had a new (by new I mean almost 100 mi.) Grizzly, Hauling it in my truck doin' 70 mph on the interstate, when the tailgate broke. The small ratchet strap didn't hold sh**, and all I saw in the rear view was my toy tumbling down the road. Needless to say there wasn't much left. It was a sad day, but it makes a cool story!
