327 vortec vs. 350 vortec
is this a quarter mile race here? 0-60 times...what?
also, what axle ratios do they each have?
Im no engine builder, but heres my take on it:
i have a 327 vortec in my truck and my cousin has a 350 in his. his seems to pull harder than mine, but mine makes more power overall in the upper rpm range (according to the GM dynos). dont know why GM did this with these newer vortec engines since 1999- they make their max power above 4K rpm- hp and torque. if you are pulling something, you are not hitting 4000+rpm when you start so its max is unusable. the 350 made more power/torque at a lower rpm than the 327 (hence it feels stronger and makes more usable power, IMO). the 327 is more revvy though and is supposed to get better gas mileage even though i dont see a difference- like .5mpg when pulling a trailer.
if the 350 is modded with a chip and stuff (im assuming that the chip also takes away the stock speedlimiter at 97mph, like on mine) im saying the 350 modded will win.
the 350 was one of the best engines they made. they should have kept it.

327 vortec vs. 350 vortec
I had a 95 non vortec 350 and then a 00 5.3(327) both had 3.73 rear ends and I thought the 5.3 felt more zippy. I dont remember ever pulling with the 95 but I did with the 5.3 and I was not impressed so I traded for a Cummins. I have been told that seat of the pants you could barly tell the diference between the 2 versions of the 350, so if that is the case my 5.3 would have walked all over my old 350. Now as far as mods go I am not familiar with what diference it makes to a gasser. I am guessing maybe 20 horse max with the mods listed above. I dont know if that would be enought to make it keep up with the 5.3 or not. If you realy want to embares him and or be embaresed yourself try drag racing a modded diesel. They will suprize ya. I cant shift gears fast enough to make a viable run in the quarter but if it where an auto it would definatly beat my old 5.3 in the quarter. These things come alive with a little help from a fueling box(equivalent to a chip on gassers). Mine is a low end box and adds 100hp/200ft lb. The biger boxes are 250hp/450-500ft lb over stock. I have rode in a truck identical to mine with an auto and a 120hp/240ft lb box and I would not be afraid to drag race Z28 Camaroes and Mustang GTs with it. I was shocked at how fast that 7500# truck was.

327 vortec vs. 350 vortec
i have a 94 with 350 the non vortec and it is weak as water, but im selling it to buy a 98 with the vortec 350 and from what i can tell the vortec 350 has tons more power than mine and mine has an intake. yes diesels are quite impressive once you juice them up i would love to have a diesel but i just cant afford to make that kind of a payment right now since im just 18.
