Default wheel clicking in f250

I have 99 f250 lifted 4x4 7.3. Has anyone had a problem with a clicking noise in the front wheels at low speeds? Took it to several places and I have replaced brakes and rotors recently, didnt help. There is no play in the wheels when I jack it up and try to move them so I think the wheel bearings are ok. It doesnt make the sound when it is jacked up and I turn the tires either, it only seems to happen under the laod of the vehicle. I also tried locking the hubs, makes no difference.
No one seems to know what the problem is! True Line said it was the 3 piece Weld wheels and if I re-torque them the noise should stop. Tried that and it did stop for a while but came back. Should I replace the wheels? Are they dangerous? I tow a 26 foot toy hauler with 5 quads so safety is very important!!

I was thinking it would be the wheels. I had a friends truck do that before. You shouldn't run around with them and surely not tow with them.

Thanks for the response. Do you know if this a common problem with these wheels?

Since the problem went away when you retorgued the wheels I would guess the lug nuts and/or wheels have been run at lower than required torgue. This will allow the tapered holes in the wheels to wear a little egg shaped and work loose. If you have seen any "fretting", the rust or dirt lines that form from the lug nuts outward on the wheel, then you definitlly have a problem.

Close inspection by a skilled person at a good wheel straightening shop would be a good first step if you do not want to replace the wheels.

Good idea, only I dont have them anymore. Guess I could look in the paper and find some for real cheap or if an off road shop has a pair laying around. Ill give it a try.

Thanks!

When you hear the noise can you feel a tap on the floor board? Both of my Ford Super Duty's do this or have done this from time to time.

I know the noise you are talking about, its the sway bar mounts. The noise I hear is coming from the wheels. Its a clicking that is only apparent from 1 mph to about 20 mph. Any other ideas before I drop the cash for new wheels? Has this happened to anyone else? Is this just a defect?
