And to think now over $4.00 for gas

Well, the old truck was an 8.1/ Allison and the new one is a DMax/ Allison. From that first hand experience I can say:
1. The 8.1 is a great motor and coupled with the Allison is a great combination. But, it doesn't hold a candle to the DMax. I always felt that my 8.1 was a strong puller, but the diesel is in a whole 'nother league. If you only run 7K a year like the OP in this thread, then get the gasser, but if you do daily towing like i do, the diesel is the way to go.
2. FTR, I also paid $10K under MSRP for my diesel (Actually about $9,600).
3. Even with todays prices, it's still cheaper for me to run the diesel than the gasser. Not much, since diesel is so much higher at this time.
4. This debate has been around for quite a while. The real answer depends on your usage and how many miles you run each year.
