What kind of ramp to get?
#1
I just bought a 93 gmc sonoma, and i'm getting it ready to haul the quads around. I already got it setup for the trailer, but now I need to get a quad into the bed of the truck. I'm going to get something from Harbor Freight because of the prices, but I really don't know which ramp would be the best. I thought one of the folding ramps would be nice and convenient, but my dilemma with those is that I don't know if it would be wide enough for my warrior. It's widened 3 or 4 inches, so it measures about 46 inches at the widest point. How scary would it be to drive it up a 43" wide ramp? I never loaded a quad into a truck, so I really don't know how this is going to go. Would I just be better off getting a 2 piece ramp instead? Thanks for any advice.

I prerfer the bifold. Just my preference, and I haven't widened my quads any. I like not having to get on and off to check the alignment when loading by myself.
Mine opens to 48". Don't know the brand name, sorry.
You may also want to see what the distance is between the wheel wells on the truck. On my Ranger, I made a ramp from the rear of the wheel wells to the back of the bed out of treated 2x6. Getting over the hump without it almost cost me a back window.

I got a tri-fold ramp at Sams club for $100 not sure how wide but it is slightly wider than my warrior and almost as wide as tailgate. It is a little steep getting in my 2500HD 4X4 but not to bad.

I used to drive a '91 Sonoma. And it was stock height so it wasn't an issue getting in (unlike a tall 4x4 or so.) I've got an alum. bifold ($160 or so) that works great. Never worried about width on my Warrior. Just watch the wheel wells or you'll be denting them and your rims. As others have said, folding and sticking under the quad is nice. I've also been known to strap it to the top of the quad or sitting on its side but vertical over the wheel wells to get room under the quad. My bifold also makes a great ladder in a pinch and I use it as a table across the bed rails to cook with. So they aren't just limited to their intended purpose.
Big thing to remember is the safety straps and/or chains. They are there for a reason. I've seen them go flying across a parking lot before. I definately say stay away from the individual ramps. If they aren't perfect, or one flies, it's not going to be pretty.
Ramp is about 5' tall and has a 1200lb capacity.

Alright, thanks guys. I think i'm going to go for a bifold ramp (already found out trifolds won't fit under my quad because of the rear skid). And scooter, thanks for the idea of making ramps just to get over the wheel humps. I wasn't sure how I was going to get around them, but that is a great idea.
