2005 Ford F250 Superduty question for other owners
#1
I have a F250 extended cab superduty 4x4, and while driving on the highway at 65 - 75 mph when I hit expansion joints or bumps on the hwy I get very bad shaking. It feels like I lost a tire or something. I slow down to about 30mph and it clears, but then the same thing occurs again when I reach the speed. It only happens once in a while, but often enough to make me a little nervous while driving on the hwy.
I checked with a friend that has the same vehicle and he said it happens to him too. We both brought are truck to the local Ford dealer and they found no problems. So I brought it to another Ford dealer in the area and they to found no problems.
Is that normal? Am I driving to fast with that type of vehicle?
thanks for any opinions!

I have the '07 F350 crewcab. It rides beautiful at speed, whether empty or towing my 40' Raptor 5th wheel.
Even my ol' '97 F350 rides nice, now.
I did have a problem with it riding rough and bit of a "shake" in the front.
Replaced the tie-rods, right front ball joint, and trac-bar. Rode nice after that.
Good Luck

Thanks for the replies. When I go to the dealer I will have the tech ride with me to see if I can show him what I am talking about. I shouldn't have to, because if they test drove it they should have had it happen. It is so bad that it actually make you bounce in your seat and the whole truck shakes like it going to fall apart.
Anyway thanks again, I was hoping this was a known problem..
Thanks

It could be the u-joints on your driveshaft.
Regardless, you're not driving too fast for the vehicle. That isn't normal.

I just remembered, a couple of months ago, we had a customer with a 06 or 07 F250 crew cab long box with a similar complaint. (I work for Ford) He sayed when he hit a bump, the back of the truck would bounce a little at first and then a little more and then a little more untill it got so bad he would have to slow down to a crawl and then it would be fine. We called tech Hotline and we were told to put about 250# in the bed and try it again, and it seemed to be ok. Hotline told us Ford was working on a fix for this and would be released in a few months. Try putting your bike or something in the back and try again.
Another thought is to check your parking brake. It is a drum brake inside the rotor. If it sticks on a little it could also cause the same condition. Check to make sure the levers are releasing COMEPLETLY and maybe pull the rotors off and see if the shoes have been dragging or are seperating.
You never said if it shook the front or rear, but if it's the rear here are some more ideas. Good luck and let us know

My 2006 F350 has the heaviest GVWR package available and doesn't do this loaded or unloaded. That complaint sounds more like an underdamped axle problem. Which new shocks would probably fix.

Yours is not normal, my 2001 F250 runs much faster than that on the highway in total comfort. Take it to an alignment shop, they'll check the tie rods and ball joints as part of the alignment. It could also be a tire out of balance, try to find a shop with a road force balancer if you've got oversized tires on yours. Good luck!
