In the market for a trailer
I was in the market for a trailer as well after getting a second atv for my son. I was looking at Craig's list and other classifieds. Looking for a used 2 atv trailer was in the $1500 + range. I finally called a local trailer/glass company and asked for a 6 1/2' X 12' price. They have an atv trailer that looked like a normal utility but the typical sides on the front half the trailer were pinned and came off for ramps. It is a front side load, rear straight on load. With a 3500 LB axle, 15" wheels and jack; it was $865. The trailer weight is 700 lbs. dry. The manufacturer is J & W in Lamar, MO. I bought mine in Western Nebraska and will go pick it up tomorrow.
I also looked into a snowmobile trailer as my parents have one that has not been used for 20 years. It has a 1000 load limit on those 8" wheels. Considering a large ATV like a Polaris is 750 lbs. plus extras it is easily 850. I just don't think that is the way to go. Most propaganda I've read says not to exceed 50% of the pull vehicles weight without adding trailer brakes. Most full size pickups and utility vehicles will pull a 3500 LB trailer with no problem. |
