Only measuring what your truck gets while going downhill doesnt count.

The mega cabs are sweet, but I wont own one until they put out a long bed. The back seat in a regular quad cab is tiny. I used to own one. It had a hemi and was a nice truck. But now I love my long bed Duramax Chevy.</end quote></div>

I just left an 05 quad cab long box Dodge at the chevy Stealership. I don't have my fifth wheel in yet so haven't pulled the trailer. I can already tell that I will like this transmission more than I like the ol Cummins engine. The last trip was 28,500lbs and the trannie didn't like it. That was a Weekend Warrior "Full Throttle", 4 guys and 4 quads. 800 mile round trip.

As posted earlier, most would take a cummins and allison all stuffed in a Ford.

The 68RFE auto that comes in the new Dodge pickups is very impressive. I'd say it is at least equal to the Allison. Using the paddle shift mode with the built in exhaust brake feature of the variable turbo really works slick.

THe 48RE it replaced was reliable as long as the motor wasn't turned up too much, but I think having 4 speeds really hurts towing performance (I've always went with a manual, anyway).

An Aisin transmission is used in the cab and chassis 3500 to 5500 trucks, and it is also a 6 speed but has a provision for power take off. Aisin is one of the largest (if not the largest) producers of automatic transmissions in the world. I don't think they are part of Toyota, but they are a major supplier, and Toyota may be a majority share holder.

From what I've been reading lately, people with the 6.7 have been posting better MPG's, particularly for the 08's so maybe they have the emission system sorted out a bit now. If I were buying a new one, that 68RFE is so slick I'd be tempted to get my first auto transmission truck.

Fuel prices being what they are, though, they've hurt the resale value of large pickups...
