Well, I told the guy I would let him know for sure tomorrow, and I was pretty sure I was going to get it, but I'm starting to second guess myself on it now. I just found a couple other trucks I want to look into first that seem like good deals. What really caught my eye was a 1998 GMC 1500, the stripped down work truck version, with a 5.0 vortec, 117,000 miles, for $1,500. I'm going to call about it tomorrow and try to figure out what the catch is, that price seems too good to be true.

hey recon, the trade-in on a 88 gmc WT longbed is only $1225 in excelent condition, so the price sounds about right. I saw a truck like you went and looked at, and if it has the same/similiar bed you could possibaly fit a grizzly in the back of it.

hangin, that sucks nout the nissian.

yeah i think i need to rethink about what i'm looking for and just start looking for full size trucks. being in VA kinda sucks with the entire inspection crap. i want something i don't have to put alot of time into just getting it on the road.

In VA you have to have a safety inspection and an emission's test. over all it's pretty gay. and all this is before you can even can get it registered. i guess i'll find something. it doesn't hurt to just hold onto my money and save more.

no the more money you got, the nicer ride you can buy.... Didn't you say you were renting out a house in another state? Couldn't you just register it in that state? Just a thought.

i thought about that also just registering it in NC because they aren't as stupid as VA but you still need an inspection in NC also. i still need to find good places to ride and possibly some good people to ride with anyways. i think i'm going to get one of my new co-workers to put a hitch on his truck and take him out and let him ride on one of mine till he gets the 4wheeler fever and goes and buys his own

That's for an 88 gmc wt, this second one I found is a 98, so I think that would be worth considerably more. I called today and he said it's in good shape mechanically, it just doesn't look real pretty and needs a good cleaning. I think i'm going to go check it out now, hopefully it's not a waste of a 45 minute drive one way to check it out.

I checked it out and drove it, and there's a reason the price is low. It was a construction vehicle so it's beat up pretty good, just dents on the body mostly. There are a couple things i'm worried about, mainly that it doesn't idle until it's warmed up pretty good, and i'm thinking that's probably something small. Either plugs and wires (it still has the originals and they're covered with mud and gunk) or the TPS or idle air control valve. The ABS warning light stays on, all you gotta do is take the bulb out and that problem just went away. The A/C doesn't seem to work but it may just need recharged. I don't really need that anyways. Once it warms up the engine runs strong and the transmission shifts good, and it doesn't make any weird noises which is a good sign. The only other thing is that the inspection ran out months ago, but if that would come to be a problem, well, I know a guy that knows a guy...

Tomorrow after work i'm taking one of my buddies along to check it out and get his opinion on it, he's a mechanic and a chevy guy so i'll just use his best judgement with this one.
