Wow looks like a high tech setup for getting firewood. I wish I had that setup for going out and cutting wood. I agree with you on the power. My powerstroke has 350 hp and 570ftlbs of torque and have no problems pulling whatever I want. I would prefer more MPG than more power. I believe the new ones are 400 horse and 800 torque. Seems like it is more than I need.

The Urea injection is actually a step forward from everything I have read. It helps fuel mileage and helps other things as well. I think all the new Cummins trucks have Urea injection as well so there is no way around it really. I dont really feel like its something to be worried about. If it brings back some fuel mileage and is actually easier on the engine, then seems to me its a step in the right direction.

Of course if you are like me, you'd have a 94 12 valve cummins with 271k miles on it still running great and turned up just enough to pass the new trucks To be honest my next truck will probably be a common rail 5.9 cummins, but it sure is going to be hard getting away from the tried and true mechanical injection. Although the old 12 valve will be staying with me so It may be bareable

Had a cummins once, great engine, but they too have their issues...no way near as many as the ford 6.oh had. That 12 valve is hard to beat, but becomes very tirsome as a daily drive.

My previous truck was a 08 ford 6.4 which injected diesel into the DPF, fuel mileage was horrible until the dpf fell off. But as we all no that is frowned upon by many including our gov and ford.
So far i have just over 27k miles on my new 6.7 super duty, the dpf gets topped off at every oil change which is about 2.5 gallons every 5k miles. Not a single hiccupp nor has it broken a sweat towing my 9k lb travel trailer through the new england hillside. This truck is a major improvement over the last one and i dont really have much to complain about on that one either.
As for the dodge DEF, i thought the chassis cab trucks started using DEF last year?

Glad I read this post because I have been trying to figure out what in the world I was going to do when my 06 chevy 3500 finally craps out. I pull way too much weight to go to a gasser and all of the literature on the new diesels make it hard to even consider one of them.
When I bought my Chevy I spent a lot of time and to be honest money, trying to find just the right truck with very low miles. Had to drive half way across the country to get it, but have been pleased with the power it has and thankfully not all the emissions junk to worry about.
With that being said, I know it won't last forever so one day, I'm going to have to replace it and its scary to think about the options.
Its good to see that at least some have been using these trucks without all the problems. I guess only time will tell though...

not sure if this is correct but is the DEF fill under the hood of the GM? that would really be the only downside, ford is behind the fuel door. other than that i have hd zero issues.

Well the 06 replaced a Ford F250 with the 7.3 powerstroke. I loved that truck, but honestly there is a huge difference between the setup of the Chevy and that Ford. Don't get me wrong I liked the 7.3, but the Allison in the Chevy is soooooo much better than that POS tranny in the F250. Before anyone starts yelling at me I'm not trying to make this a Ford vs. Chevy thing, and yes I know the 250 was a 3/4 ton and the 3500 is a 1 ton, but the gears were the same in both.
At the time I was pulling a 38' Sportsman Toyhauler and I'll tell you the Chevy is a hawse as compared to the Ford. That 6 speed Allison made it so easy to pull. My Ford always sounded like it needed more gears. It would rev up so high and then when it shifted it was like it was in too low of a gear. I just didn't like it for what I was doing.
Now I'm pulling a 44' Sportsman Toyhauler with 3 slides and a GVWR of 18k pounds which it is often near that since my wife thinks she has to take the house along with her everywhere we go.... LOL! The bone stock 3500 does very well especially getting up to speed.
For all you Ford owners that are just boiling I'll say this, I'm not sure there is as much highway holding power in the Chevy as the Fords. That 7.3 was amazing once it finally got up to highway speed, but boy did it sound terrible getting there.
