Default Boiling gas?

I've noticed a few threads on various forums that indicate some Grizzly's are prone to stalling due to an overheating problem that causes the gas to boil. Is this problem prevalent and is it restricted to Grizzly's, or does the Kodiak have the same problem? Thanks!

Default Boiling gas?

Greetings OldDog
A friend of mine had a 1987 Kawasaki Bayou 4x4 that he use to drive the bags off. One day he was using his snow plow to spread gravel in his yard and he said the quad got so hot the gas was boiling in the gas tank. It was fine when it cooled off.

If you have a gas-boiling problem, try adding about a pint of diesel fuel for every five gallons of gas. It will raise the boiling point without effecting performance. Not enough diesel fuel to effect performance. We use to add 1 gallon to a 20-gallon tank of gas in motorhome homes and to cure their vapor locking problems pulling up steep canyons in the heat of the summer. Regular fuel has a lower boiling point than premium does too.

Specta? Are you kidding? I've been around for a while and have never heard that one. On the gas boiling problem, my 03 Grizz does it only when it's low on gas. I guess on a full tank, it cools enough. I noticed on the 04's they have made the side vents larger. Who knows maybe some heat shields too. Either way, it wouldn't stop me from buying it again. It was pretty easy to fix. Got to like the power.

Default Boiling gas?

Hey there guys, I was wondering if the Grizzly's do this at a certain time, I was riding Saturday night and we were trail riding in the woods. Anyway, we had stopped for about 15 minutes and when I restarted and took off up this hill which was about a 30 degree incline the Grizzly acted like it hit the rev limiter, I was just on the gas a little bit not hard, the tank was full and it just cut out and after a little finess of the throttle she came out of it. I was wondering if this is what the grizzly's do when you are talking about the boiling gas. Thanks

MMwildman,

How did you take care of the heat buildup? I have heard allot of people modifying their side panels.

Your Yamaha dealer has a side panel modification template, also Yamaha offeres a heatshield for under the fuel tank. I had mine done under warranty a year ago however Yamaha will not do this under warranty anymore from what I understand. This did in part cure the problem BUT the main problem seems to exist in the south eastern states where the fuel in mixed different and the heat and humidity is higher. What happens is the fuel boils from engine heat causing vapor lock. OldDog the bike is not overheating in anyway its just not venting the heat causing the fuel to boil and Kodiaks do not have that problem. pwrx4d, you problem was the incline causing the fuel in the bowl to run out not boiling fuel. Again this seems to be a problem limited to the south eastern states.
