Default Performance mods for a 450 Kodiak??

I'm some what new to the ATV seen, I had a XR400 for a bit but realized I don't have time for two bikes (also have a CBR929RR) and traded the XR for a Kodiak 450. So far I have a 150 miles on it and a ton of fun, I was wondering what performance mods I can make to this quad??? The only pipe I seen for it is the HMF pipe, are they any good?

I know its a utility quad but I want to squeak as much power out of the engine as possible and please no "you should have gotten a Rincon, Grizzly or Prairie." I went for the 450 because its perfect for what I'll use it for but come on why leave it stock?

One more thing what is involved with the first service? Is it something I can do or should I bring it to the shop, dealer told me it would cost about $100 but never told me what they actually do.

Thanks for the info...

Well thanks for the response I can see this forum is full of useful information. It seems like everyone here is concerned more with what the next Honda sport quad will be or running quads on the road. I thought this was ATV forum where everyone shares the same interest but I guess not this is a "mines better then yours" forum. Maybe if I titles the thread "Which quad is good for outrunning cops" I would have gotten a reply.

I wont be wasting my time here anymore...

Red5, maybe if you would have posted this in the "Yamaha" forum, you would have gotton more of a response. Glas to see you wont be "wasting" your time here anymore.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and post this in the Yamaha forum but I don't see where a 450 Kodiak question doesn't fit in the utility forum??? Do you not consider the 450 to be a utility quad??

I'm not looking for 450 Kodiak specific mods just mods that will improve performance such as: is a clutch kit worth it, are the HMF pipes any good, what are the best filters (air) and info on any other little tricks to increase performance.

A Kawasaki Mule is titled as a utility vehicle. The 450 is titled as an Off Road Vehicle. I think that is what the keepers of this site had in mind.

The 03 kodiak 450 runs fine stock so thats why most people don't have much to say. However maybe better filter & muffler would help. I ride in the forest so I don't need to go fast. I added a winch, Mag light holder & fixxed the loose handle bar issue, Just need to add a beer holder.

Try an EPI Clutch kit....moose jet kit...and a Twin-Air air filter....that will help....

Want more after that...get a different quad...no offense.

I think a full clutch kit will really help ya...even then you would not be able to keep up with a 400 Outlander. The Kodiaks are super machines...just not that fast.
