Just got an 04.5 Sportsman 400 for $5600. It is one solid ATV. Looks nice, real comfortable ride, 50-55 top speed (plenty for me), really nice instrument cluster, etc. The Sportsman's are one of the best ATV's for trail riding (and general riding at that) because they are so smooth. Would I ever own anything except a Polaris? No.

Well, if you want it to be tough as nails, time tested and proven, virtually unstoppable (cept for high centering in the bad holes) I would say you want a Kodiak 450 4x4. There are plenty of quads out there that will suit you just fine. I have nothing bad to say about any quad. I will however predict that if you do a search for problems on the quads you are interested in and that if this quad ( or 2002 and earlier 400 Kodiaks) is included you will find them to be as free of problems as one could expect. Here are the biggies: rear brakes wear out fast on the older models if you mud alot; you need to check the trans snorkles when you get it to make sure they are tight; On the 2000 or lower model the waterpump needs to be upgraded. I have seen a few posts that say that the 4x4 servo can cause trouble. It seems to be a machine specific problem. I may have forgotten one but I dont think so. The dont have IRS so they do ride rougher than some. Steering is very light. plenty of power. Well, thats my story and Im sticking too it My pics show my kodiak and a couple of polaris in the same mud hole. Oh, and a Honda 450. The 450 was the only one who made it out without some kind of assistance, but he lost is front wheel bearings a day later.

Check out the Honda Rancher line, six to choose from, one for everything.

Just out of curiosity, why does everyone think everyone needs the biggest ATV there is? When we pass through the farming communities and it seems all you see are the older smaller ATV's. The very original three wheelers were designed for farmers.

if you want the most for your money and like to play, than look at the suzuki vinson. I know every one will tell you to buy what they ride but from riding other machines i know that this thing is a blast. The numble handeling and solid rear axle is alot of fun on fast anything, whether its trials, fields anything its so much fun to blip the throttle alittle and kick the back end around a corner. its the fastest in the 500 class adn will keep up with any of the other big 4x4s, but much less expensive. I got my 03 out the door 3 mounths ago for under 6 but then added a ton of extras.
