Rackman, doesn't the winch sit to low that way? Do you have it hooked in the rear already?
I want to mount my spare winch on the rear of my Kodiak and have a it plug into the power lead to the front one by having a quick connect on the front one. Just have to figure out a mounting plate for the rear frame. I like the idea of having the rear winch as half the time you would rather pull your self out of it backwards then dragging it thru something I should not have attempted. I carry a come a long for that situtation but would like to be able to just unspool the cable. AlaskaBoy.

Might want to check out the Montana Jack's reciever system. It allows you to move your winch from one end to the other in under a minute. It is expensive but well made and thought out.

I mounted my KQ winch on the back where the trailer hitch bolted up before. You can see it in my pics. I thought the same way: Isn't a winch more likely to be used to pull yourself back out of where you shouldn't have tried to go? I fabricated the stuff. here's what I have found.
Advantages.
- Low mount is better for pulling out of stuck because it tends to lift as it pulls.
- Set in between the back tires so quad could bounce off the tailgate and not touch the winch housing.
- Weight carried better for handling tight in back instead of way out front.
- I was also able to discard the incredibly heavy 'winch bumper' so that the quad handled much better and didn't ground out on steep descents to a flat bottom.
Disadvantages.
- No more front winch when you want that.
- low mount means it is under the mud sometimes when you want to use it. Obvious pain in the...
- No more trailer hitch.
- No fairlead on my setup so I have to watch so the line doesn't jump the drum.
I am going to change my setup to a home made receiver and make duplicate wiring to both ends of the machine. A nice compact winch/fairlead/mounting-post package with a handle, that I can store in my utility box and take out and plug into whichever end I need it. Very much like this guy's setup... http://www.angelfire.com/tx4/kingqua...ch/mmwinch.htm (copy and paste to your browser. A very elegant bit of home fabrication)
Except mine will have it's handle where the package balances
Advantages.
- High up out of the mud for easy use.
- Weight carried where I want it.
- Pull my machine or another one whichever way and when I want, in seconds.
- Less costly and lighter than duplicate winches.
- Easy as pie to service
- Can be carried out of the weather
- I get my trailer hitch back
That's what I'm going to do...

If you go to a removable winch, you will need a quick connect plug capable of handling high current flow. kimpex has one for superwinch winches for 11.99$ can. but you need 2 of em to make it work. 11.99 gets you half. I mounted mine in a waterproof box mounted on the rear under tail lite. works for the winch and for my strikemaster 12volt auger.

Back in the days of old when kights were gold---oh well!!! Me and the desert fox, use to mount them little boat trailer rollers under our JEEPS so we could winch out of whatever, before we got in much further foreward. With a front mounted Warn. As no self respecting Jeeper whould use a Ramsey.

natron1 do you know if Key Jeeps is still in operation in Pen. . I bought a jeep a few years back and the dash plate says that came it from a buisness called called Key Jeeps. Just wondering if they were still in existence.
