plastic aftermarket skid plates?????

I think that ShadeTree.com and Rockymountainatv.com both sell Maire plastic skids.
I had a Maire belly skid on my Recon. I bought it from Shade Tree. The Maire skids are about half the price of other brands. I used my skid a lot for sliding over downed trees and some larger rocks. It also seemed to help in deeper snow a little. The only thing it had to show for all the abuse were a few scratches. I am now considering putting a Maire on my Foreman. The only thing that makes me nervous is that my Foreman weighs almost 200 lbs more than the Recon. I don't know if the added weight will put added stress on the plastic. It should be fine on a Wolverine. In an old Shade Tree catalog the Wolverine Maire skid is priced at $38.99. The price has probably gone up a little since then.

I have the Maier's on the Ranchers, Recon, and 250EX. These bikes have good protection for the engine already, but I thought it would be good to fill in the empty spaces, and more important, protect the frame rails! They are light, and will really take a beating. Like Rhino said, they are more slippery than metal. They have skids for the Wolverine, and I see they have them for the Honda 90 also. Think I will get some quick, before the kids destroy the bikes!

However, on the 400's and 450, I run DG Baja aluminum skids.

The ones on my utes are all scratched up, and I have even pivoted on rocks with them. I don't think I could crack one of I tried. It is a good choice for the Foreman. You already have good undercairage protection anyway, and the plastic will just keep the frame from getting scratched up.

I'll have to look at the stock skid to see if it sticks down. Hopefully the mounting points of a Maire won't interfere.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I'm going to order a set asap. Does a maier set come with front a-arm protection?
