Grizzly's with Warn winch question
#1
I got a 2.5 Warn winch to put on my Griz. I was wondering if anyone else has this set-up. I looking for the best spot to connect the ignition power wire. I found a spot that's hot when you turn on the key, but I lose power when I shift it into gear. I was thinking about connecting it directly to the battery and puting an on/off switch on it. Any suggestions.

Just dealt with this same exact issue a week ago when I installed mine.
run a lead from your solenoid up to the right side (by accesory outlet) and patch in to the green/white wire (I think...can't remember for sure......you'll have to test with a test light). It's switchable, and doesn't go off when in gear. Tape it up good (or preferably use heat shrink, then tape it up GOOD).
Good luck. Mine worked flawlessly Memorial Weekend through the worst mud I've ever ridden.

Thanks, that helps a lot. Did you think about trying the on/off switch. I'm still wondering if that may be a better way to go. Then it's only on when I need it instead of any time the key is on.

I go through a lot of brush too and it seems like it would be too easy for a stick to hit that big switch and crank my winch cable down. I think I'm going to go with the on/off switch.

I made a pretty clean install, I put the switch down on the left fender along side of my hand warmer switch. It is there to see but you gotta want to switch it.
I think it is a great backup.

I put my switch down on the left fender as well. Its covering up the warning plate. OOPS, I'll probably get life in tree hugger prison for covering up the warning label.

We run the red wire to the low beam lights. We solder it to the green wire coming from the right front light. BEFORE the connector. this way when you want to winch, flick the lights to lowbeam. Still good for night riding. Also wont overheat the solenoid this way. Also there has been some that have caused fires because they used the on/off switch. Just my 2 cents but thats the way I was told to do it at the shop I work at. My family owns a 96 BBear,98 Kodiak 400, and my 03 kody 450. All have this set up and have performed flawlessly.
