Could a 04 Fourtrax Foreman S keep up with a Sportsman 600twin and a grizzly 660 on the trails? since the foreman has 4X4 and a 5 speed automatic it will have a lil more power than a fully automatic.

Sure a Foreman will keep up.

IF the Sportsman and Griz owners keep it down to 40MPH or so.

The Foreman is a workhorse and good for hunters and sightseers.

FastestBlaster,

Board question!!!

Racing the foreman will not keep up but on the trail the foreman will go anywhere the two you have mentioned will go.

not even close. the foreman is much slower and will get caught up on things easier due to lower ground clearance and SRA. it also has less power not more, it has less displacement and automatics have just as much power as auto clutches, auto's are even better IMO cause all the power can be accessed quickly.

Sometimes people go about answering a question like this by thinking that the smaller cc quad will not keep up. It really depends on the trails and a persons experience level. Top speed for some wooded areas might be 35 mph. (for anyone) I average 12 mph on a lot of the trails that I ride on. (Because of a lot of trees, rocks, and mud.) It doesn't matter how big the motor is until we get out of the woods and on a back road. I ride with people that have 250's, 300's, 350's, 450's, and 500's. The last time we got out on a back road. I was in first place and the 500 was second. The 500 might have been able to go faster but it couldn't pass me. I got the jump on the group and then held the lead. Hills and corners are also big factors. My quad speedo hit 55mph that day. Top speed really doesn't mean a darn thing considering how long it takes to get up there and how long you stay there. (because of hills, length of straight of way, and even wind) Just buy what you can afford and what you like. If the other quads are so darn fast. Tell them to wait at the end of a road for you and you'll wait for them when they break down.

Race quads are........... well................ made for racing. Not utes.

have to completely agree with coyote, i have ridden with all different size engines, on trails it means nothing, no one is ever running wide open on trails and if they are, there certainly not riding trails i am, my rancher has stayed with every single quad i rode next too, rider experience is everything

I remember when the Honda 300 Fourtrax was the biggest and baddest quad out there. There wasn't anywhere it couldn't go. Well, I still take it out on the trails when the wife is riding the Griz and I have no problem keeping up with the high powered, IRS, jacked up, big tired quads. I think it comes down to riding ability for the most part. Sure, on the open roads I can't keep up with the Griz, but we're talking about trails. Besides, I don't mind getting pulled out of the deep holes and my wife likes using the winch. Unless you're racing GNCC, it's all about having fun, not being the fastest.

I ride mostly on private lands. I know the area of Scranton kinda well. I go down to Gander Mtn. and Andretti's (Warhorse) once a while.
