Default Winch Rope?

I have a Warn 2500 winch and the cable it starting to get bad. I was thinking of replacing it with rope instead. Do any of you have any experience with this? I'm looking for the following:

Any problems with rope?

Is it easy to install?

How long do I get?

What type is good?

What's the price?

It sounds like a heck of a product!

Does it fray and give you splinters like the wire does?

Default Winch Rope?

all that rope on there had like a 7000 pound working load

wonder why I can't buy thinner stuff so I can spool like 100 feet of rope on my winch, after all it's only a 2500 poiund winch and it doesn't pull a straight 2500 pounds anyways.

I would love 100 feet of line on my winch, 50 feet is soooo short!

I use it and I love it. I bought it here www.rockstomper.com He had the best price. they also suggest using an aluminum fairlead. But I'm using my roller with no problems.

With each wrap around the drum you lose pulling strength due to to gear ratio changing. While you might then be able to reach that tree you might not have the power to pull yourself to it.

About using the roller fairlead.... as you apply tension to the Plasma rope it gets thinner. Often it can get in the corner spaces between the rollers and this can damage the rope.

My winch rope does not get thinner as tension is applied. The reason for the aluminum fairlead is that it is smooth as any sharp edge on the steel fairlead can damage the rope. I have used my winch several times with the rope. This stuff works great. The main reason I went to rope is to save weight. it was easy to put on my winch using the same set up they had used for the cable.

That rope it a great idea. i just added one to my list of things to get. BTW what is the correct way to neatly reel in the wench cable. When I clean my bear I like to pull the cable all the way out to get all the debris out and WD-40 and all that. But I cannot for the life of me reel the cable back in right.

Hopefully the rope will work out better. Great Thread!
