Default 12v acc. HELP

well I bought a 12v air compressor for my 03 600 sportsman.....I plug it in and it pumps fine for about 15 sec. while it is doing this the diogositics say normal volts (13v) as i give it some RPM...but i know the compressor takes 14 amps.... well what happens is the compressor kicks off for 5 sec after like a say 15 sec of run time then turns back on and the same thing happens...what i want to do is bypass the 10 amp circuit breaker with a switch so it has to run the 14amps around it....will this hurt anything like alternator, electrical system or anything else...need help here...thanks....

Default 12v acc. HELP

The stator may not be up to the job. 13 volts times 14 amps is 184 watts. Im thinking unless, the motor is running at 5000 rpm or higher, the stator isnt going to put out that many watts, and keep the motor and /or lights going.
Stators are rated at their maximum output, and its usually @ 5000rpm. The output is much lower, at lower rpm.

well my stator is rated for 300 watts..(@ 3000 rpm) .the only other thing that would be running is the fan...not sure on the watts there... and your calculations are what i got....i think that compressor is probably running 11 or 12 amps cuz it runs for 15 sec before kicking the 10amp breaker...so must be just over 10amps...thanks for the help though any other thoughts...

not using fuses, is a real dumb idea, its how you smoke electronics, pay 3 dollars and put a fuse on it

Don't forget start up amperage on electric motors can run anywhere from 2-3 times running amps, so when your compressor starts up its already overloading the 10amp circut breaker. That could be another reason it kicks off so quick.
