Default Honda recon help!

I have a 1999 honda recon 250 all stock, its been to hell and back and can still go through anything, but i wanna fix it up alittle and make it look and run better, the plastic shifted and bent up, anyway i can fix that? and my gears are stripped or slipping or something, how do i fix that? and it the electric ignition wont work, when you hit the start button the cable just clicks by the battery but i dont think the battery is dead because the lights and stuff work when the fourwheelers off, but i need to fix that because i have to pull start it with the rope everytime and its gettin worn out and breaks the string and annoying, so please help? and everytime i go in water it seems like my gears start to strip afterwards, and anything to make it look better? and can i paint my racks? and what tires because mine are going bald, so i need to know about my gears and how to start it. Thanks for reading, and please reply, i need help
Thanks

Sounds to me like this poor machine is still in hell... Maybe dropping it off at the shop might be the wise option. Personally, I wouldn't have the time or the patience to deal with all that's wrong. Whew...!

You probably need to adjust the clutch. See your owners manual for the procedure. There are a number of posts by people who tightened it to much, and did some damage, so do it by the book!

I think you might need a new battery. It has enough juice to run the lights, but not enought to turn the thing over.

The clicking sound coming from the battery is the lose connection between the solenoid and the posotive terminal, i had the same problem just have another look at that stretch of wire.

as for the plastics just simply take them off and put them back on ! the front carrier racks are keeping the plastics in the same position (had that problem aswell) goodluck....

if the rack is bent, take it off and just use a sledge hammer and help her go back into place. did it to mine and it looks good. then, sand down the metal rack, use some semi gloss paint and let 'er shine.

I had the same problem with my battery. My lights and stuff would come on but there was not enough power to start it. As far as the plastics go you can take them off and buff them to a shine and the racks can be painted just sand them like previously mentioned. I painted mine with Spray on truck bed coating, works great! If you do not want the dull grippy coat that provides then look at appliance paint. It is a epoxy paint and is very durable. I painted my wheels with it and they are still great looking. You can get it at ACE hardware for sure and it comes in black.
