u cant paint the plastic, it will only run and look like sh*t. but, if u take off the rack and sand down and parts that the paint if chipping or a little rusty, then use a semi gloss spray paint. i just did mine today and it looks good. does yurs have a black metal rack? thats what i did it on.

I'd say on the racks if you want to strip the old paint the easiest way on something like that would be to chemically strip it sanding would be a pain. If your just going to paint over the existing paint use a very fine sandpaper, i'd use something finer then 220 actually a fine brillo pad would work well, make sure the old paint is well roughed up, use a cleaner that doesn't leave any residue at all. Paint it before it has a chance to gather any dirt or anything like that

I used some truck bed coating when I painted my composite rack. It has a nice texture to it and will last longer than just painting it. You can get it a Wal-mart for $7.96 a can. I also painted my nerf bars with it the other day. It says sand all areas with 80 to 180 grit sand paper.

It's called Truck Bed Liner and is made by Plasti-kote. I only seen it in white and black but they could have different colors.

You could take and use the white truck bed liner and then paint over it with silver paint. I have a friend that has a 450 foreman and he is going to paint the front & rear racks with it plus the bumper.
