Kawasaki 750 Brute "Farce" Top Speed

If utility atv's are gonna have the power to pull a tank chassis above 65mph, they need to have the agility and handling to negotiate the terrain in a reasonably safe manner. I sure hope the latest "biggest and most powerful utility atv" contest among manufacturers do not hinder the sport in the long run.

It doesn't matter how fast you go as long as you are faster than the guys you ride with! I just thought I should be faster than a 650 Prarie and at least as fast as a 700 Prarie.
I'm only barely faster than the 650 and equal to the 700.

I aggree with you, I was just curious about your wording in your original post about wanting to see why you bought this thing. I understand now, I would expect to be faster myself. I picked up mine a month ago, and I am at 15 hours. I have only had it up to about 62, but it felt like I had plenty more. I dropped it in a pond last week so now I am trying to baby it for a while to get all of the crap worked out of the engine, which hopefully I already have flushed out. You definitely should be faster that what you are running. I am not suprised that Kaw said that, sounds like a normal huge corporation that handles the occasional complaint. I would imagine that your best bet is to post on the Kaw forum, and ask some of the guys that have had their machine tore down to the frame. They should have the best idea of what you should be running, and what you could do to help it. When I finish the babying of mine I will put the hammer down and let you know what I ran. Good luck.

I'll be waiting for your response. I assume you will be running about what everyone else is though. ( 68 mph-72 mph)
I think I just got a dog. It runs ok but it just does not have any top end.

Dont be satisfied with "just having a dog." Knock on some doors and see what you can turn up. Try a different dealer or mechanic. There are thousands of guys on here, someone should be able to help. You payed good money for that machine and it should step up. I will keep my ears open for you and let you know when I run my own. Good luck.

Do you really want to be faster? Call up Mickey Dunlap at Four Stroke Tech in Pa. as he has alot of experiance in Kawi V twins and makes them scream! Also, he is knowledgable about good suspension set ups for the fast Utes.

i think iv owned a couple factory turds myself...lol.i first bought a 04 700 prarie, and on straight roads i could only get 64mph.then i got a 06 brute 750 and returned it to the dealer cuz i hated the way it handled, and i also could only get 65-66 out of that,so i just asked for another 06 700 prarie(i love the straight axles).i put 1,600 miles on it since late 06,and that thing wouldnt go over 64 either.my buddy got a brute 650 and smokes me...69mph steady everytime.i sold the prarie a month ago and im in the air on 08 brute,or 08 KQ??OR EVEN 08 650 BRUTE(I THINK THEY LET THE CLUTCH ENGAGE A BIT MORE CUZ THE SMALLER CC).Although i really like handeling and acceleration more than top speed,i find myself pinned alot down the road wide open, and i love it.iv heard the new 750 brute has a much improved susp.set up,efi, and a few other small dodads,so im leaning that direction,as i cant find a final word on the 750 KQ's performance.from what iv gathered its not that much of a difference from last year, although im still waiting to hear different. i wonder if just killin em from day 1 without much of a break in time restricts the performance(top end speed) or whatever in the long run??as thats what iv done quite a bit in the past.i realize 2 strokes u cant....but 4's??iv never had any noticeable troubles wackin the throttle wide open fresh from the crate....im getting one this week,so any imput would appreciated 585-944-6717

you have more variable in the CVT than the engine. Clutching is an art and the factory isn't into masterpieces. One set up fits all for them. Most snowmobile tuners will tell you that is just wrong. Fine clutch calibration is up to you. If your engine is running right (jetted right, good compression), most of your gains can be made with the CVT. One of the pitfalls of a belt drive.
