Default 589 vs mud bug

I have a 350 rancher and was wondering which of these tires is better for keeping my performance with no loss, keeping a good ride at high speeds, having good tread life and etc? thanks

Default 589 vs mud bug

I have been thinking about purchasing a set of 589's for sometime. I rode a friends 2005 Kodiak 450 yesterday that had 26" 589's on it. He also had another 05 Kodiak 450 with stock tires. The 589's seemed to do better in snow that was about 10" deep but they sucked on the wet rocks. He was able to let all the air out of the 589's and still run it around the property. Those tires are stiff. They kinda wanted to go they're own way from time to time and are rougher riding than what I would want. Of course if I had to go into country that has a lot of sharp rocks I would diffinetly put a set of 589's on. Being that I don't plan on riding in such an area I will not be purchasing a set. As heavy duty as these tires appear I would think they weigh a lot compared to stock tires. Personally, I wouldn't want them for high speed riding. Hope this helps in some way.

The 589 is a very hard tire, made strickly for mudding. It will do ok on the hard packed trails. As the rubber is so hard, they will last forever and a day, but they are very heavy, and you'll feel the weight. The Maxxis Mud Bogs aren't much different, other than they aren't as good in the mud. Between the 2 I would go with the 589, however, if you don't want to hurt the performance on the open trail that much neither are the tire for you. Need to look at something more like the mudlite.

Sorry, I read that wrong. Actaully the Mud Bug is the better mudding tire, and they both do well on the trails also. If you need a better mud tire the mud bug is your tire, however, if you do more trail riding with some mud, and do not want to rob your machine of too much power, I still stand by the mud lites. They are a great mud/trail, but they will wear faster than either of the other 2.

I had 589s a few years ago and they would be way down my list of tires to buy. They ride very rough. they side walls have very little flex. The best thing to use them for would be, plowing snow on concrete they will last forever. Tire in that class would be gators, mudbugs,or mudlights XL. All of the new radial tires would fit in there some place too.

My brother has 25" mud bugs on his kawie prairie 360 and they are very good in the mud. The only thing that we have noticed is backing up in deep mud they don't clean as good as he would like them to. I had 26" ITP 589's on my kawie prarie 700 and they were awesome. To me, they are the best all around utility tires out there. I have some 27" ITP mudlites on my kawie BF750 and they ride a little better on hard pack than the 589's, however, I don't like them in the mud that much because they tend to pack up a little more, and backing up in the mud is not that great to me. Don't get me wrong, they are good tires, but after having the 589's, I am bias. I will probably be selling the mudlites and getting 28" 589's or try the kenda excutioners on my kawie bf750 next. But, back to the mud bugs, they are very good mud tires similar to IBC gators.

Mudbugs do quite well in the mud and snow... much better in the snow than the 589s... They only weigh a little bit more than the mudlites so as far as power goes you would lose the least with the mudbugs but they'll hook much better than the stockers so with added traction you'll lose power.

I have a Rancher 350 4x4, I put 26" Mud Bugs on it. I love them. When ever you switch to a mud tire you lose some smoothness on hard surface. At regular speeds you can't tell. I have had mine for 4 years still look new, I stay off of the pavement.

If you had a 700 any tire would clean out quick.

These Ranchers are the best in there class. Light, but a little under powered from the start. If you go to a 25" you shouldn't notice a difference. If you go to a 26" you will lose a little top end, 5-6 miles an hour. Low end is awesome, plenty of torque.

Good Luck!!

Also if you're looking the mudbugs will out perform the 589's in the mud all day long... they clean out much better and are a partial digging/paddle tire while the 589s don't paddle any what so ever they just try and dig in the mud.

Mudbugs are one of the best all around tires for a mud tire out... just a little bit heavier than mudlites(not much) with good pull in the mud and on the trails.
