Pull it tight, or let it hang????

I knocked the end caps off of my bumper so this made a good spot to stretch a bungie cord across and hook my cable to. It doesn't let it bang around but also doesn't have to be ultra tight either.

I used an old bracket that was 1/4" thick and already bent at a 90 deg. angle. I ground down one end so that it contoured to the shape of the fairlead and drilled a 1 1/2" hole on the other end. Replaced one of the vertical roller bolts with an inch longer bolt and fastened it to the fairlead, swinging it parallel to the face of the fairlead. I keep the rope saver bunched up near the hook and spool the synthetic rope up to the so that the rope saver fits snug against the rollers. I have had pretty good luck with it so far, I have been riding some pretty nasty trails here lately and been doing alot of winching. Also, with the high mounting position of the winches on my Polaris', the hook rests nice and high.

I have mine set up like DaRiot said: a bungee cord running horizontally acrooss the rack and the winch hook hooked to that. Keeps everything snug and in place without rattling, and it keeps the hook higher up where it is more handy to get at when you're in the mud.

I usuallyhook mine to my rack, get it snug, but not enough to bend anything. I used to just pull it tight to the fairlead, but after bumping stuff and gettin it full of mud, I bent up a few of the snap closer things on the hook
