Default Another Winch Question

I have a Mile Marker P-2000 winch on my 700 Prairie. I recently sank my quad in a mud hole. I t was completely submerged for about 30 minutes before I was able to have a buddy winch me out. Got mud in the carbs, it was ugly! My question is: would it be advisable to take the winch apart and clean it or am I better off just to leave the damn thing alone? It's not water prooof rated but like all winches it looks like the case is sealed pretty good. Would I be doing more harm by opening the case and relubing it or just leave it be?

The winch is very easy to take apart. I would take it apart, clean it and put in some good synthetic marine grease. Not a whol lot but just enough to cover everything to keep it from rusting. I take mine apart about every 4-5 months to clean it. It still works like new after a year of abuse.

I agree. I take my winch apart twice a year, and clean it and regrease it with Amsoil synthetic grease
