Default If you could build the ultimate utility.....

Just wondering what the response would be here, but if you could build your ultimate utility 4x4 quad, what features would you put on it given only the features offered on all the manufactures? For example, looking at the motors, would you take the can-am 800 vtwin, the kawie 750 vtwin, the polaris 800 twin...........etc.

It would be interesting to see everything from breaks, to 4wd system, to motor, to racks, to everything else.

Maybe do two categories, the big bores and the 400-500 class.

maybe an EFI Rincon with Rubicon Hondamatic - low range - third headlight, Cat MRP racks, Foreman power steering, Polaris PXT or CanAm ACT tires, Yamaha Terrapro PTO, and a torsen differential that can be locked when needed (who makes one?)

You mean for the Front?

AC, Suzuki, Yamaha all use electric activated front lockers!

yes front, but the lockers you list are open differentials unless they are locked, aren't they? if so there is an advantage with the torsen until you need the locked front end, right? I think you would need the locker less with a torsen.

Hey, it is a wish list, right?

For my idea of the ultimate utility ATV I would start with the discontinued Traxter, put a little bigger engine in it, not too big though so it isn't over powered. Power steering would be good. It would need to be gear drive just like the Traxter and still have the Visco lock system or something very similiar. Needs an override on reverse for snowplowing and the headlights could be a little higher off the ground to shine over top of a snowplow with flap. Maybe even slightly taller tires but not sure on that one.

The ultimate for me would be the Arctic Cat Thundercat motor, with Grizzly 700 power steering, and the a-arms and 15" travel Elka shocks from my Rhino on it.

Start with a Thundercat engine, 12" ground clearance, add an extra IRS to the rear for six wheels, put a second seat on the back so my wife doesn't fuss about being left behind.

Add a refrigerator large enough to hold a case of beer, should fit behind the 2nd seat just fine. An extra fuel tank, 'cause we want to stay out for a while. And a folding tent in case it rains.

That's enough for a start.
