I'm just guessing here, but maybe your dad hasn't had a lot of head-on collissions at high speed. I've seen metal racks that are destroyed in less than a year, and I've seen some that still look pretty good after several years. It's the same with plastic racks. Some look good and some break. Plastic and metal will both break if you hit them really hard. But plastic never rusts and there's no paint to chip or peel. I like the plastic racks better because there are big flat surfaces to set things on. I chose po for a few reasons: Not bashing it is just worked for me.
Dealers, my po dealer is top notch.
shift pattern, straight vs serpintine, I like that when working can just slap it from l -R.
comfort, Nothing compares to the poo ride, the cat I tried seemed too tippy, not as stable.
AWD system, is there when needed do not have to fiddle with levers etc.
We have mostly cats in our club and they are very satisfied with their machines but did not work for me.

What is the towing capacity on the AC? I'm pretty sure the popo is rated higher but I could be wrong. Really your saying just because the AC has a 2'' reciever it'll handle more than a bike with a 1 1/4'' inch? I think truth is AC went with the two inch for pure convenience of being able to use the same insert in your bike and truck. Just a wild guess.

The AC 650's towing capacity is only 1,050. That's 200 pounds LESS than a Sportsman 500. The Sportsman 800's towing capacity is 1,500 pounds, and 1,913 lbs on a trailer with brakes. That's well over 80% more than the Cat can tow. If you want something that can out-tow everything else, you need a Polaris with a small receiver, not a Cat with a big receiver. This is one case where size doesn't matter.

Either machine will pull until you get all 4 tires spinning and it starts jumping.
Was a bit miffed with the 1.25 vs the 2" as I had 3 2" reciever hitches in the garage already & had to go out and buy a 1.25 also. Guess not a real big thing but does seem kinda strange, maybe Poo owns the Acme 1.25 hitch company also.

A lot of cars have 1.25" hitches. An ATV that's smaller than a car doesn't need a bigger hitch, IMO. I had a hitch on my truck already and got a new hitch for my quad. But if my quad wasn't stolen I could use the same hitch on the next one and never have to buy another hitch. So 2 ***** and mounts for 2 vehicles. It just isn't a big deal for me to have one hitch on the truck and one on the quad. Especially when they're both padlocked or bolted on. I couldn't switch them very fast even if they were the same size. I might buy one for each vehicle anyway, since I can't use that much drop on the quad. If I had more than one size ball it would be a different story, but all I need is 2".
I also think, like someone else pointed out, that with a 2" hitch people are going to be more likely to try to haul trailers that are way too big. You know how some people think: If my truck can pull it, and my quad has the same size hitch...

When I spend 7 grand on a bike I notice things like reciever size among other things. I say if it's gonna get you "miffed" don't buy it and if you didn't notice it before ya bought it.....well then no reason to get miffed.
